PAYE - Error 1046 on submitting Internet Files to HMRC
Some users are currently experiencing an Error 1046 when submitting In Year Movements and End of Year files online to HMRC. This error arises when a user’s credentials cannot be authenticated by the Government Gateway. The cause is almost invariably 'finger trouble' – transposing two characters in the password; including a space in the UTR (Unique Taxpayer Reference); or mistaking the letter 'I' for the number '1'. HMRC acknowledge that there are some true anomalies to this rule. If you receive this error please contact the HMRC online service helpdesk at 0845 366 7805 to verify your registered User ID.

CIS - Submissions Unsuccessful
Due to a delay in HMRC response files to verification requests and monthly return submissions being received on the Government Gateway, some users will receive messages that submissions have been unsuccessful through the CIS Filer. Please note that HMRC send an email to confirm the status of all returns, be it successful or not, so please check these email receipts for status confirmation of all returns. To view any HMRC or Gateway issues you may log onto the HMRC Service issue webpage relating to CIS.

CIS - Submitting CIS300 Errors
If you are receiving error messages when submitting the monthly CIS300 return to HMRC then this error may relate to sole traders using trading names. To resolve this issue please upgrade to the latest version 2007.1.5. All programs can be upgraded by clicking on the "Help" menu and "Check for Updates" within the program.

CIS - HMRC communications
Agents registered for PAYE are not automatically registered for CIS. A quick way for an agent checking whether or not they are registered as a CIS agent for a client is to log onto the Employer online service and check the list of clients listed under the CIS heading.
